Dr. Stanwix performs liposuction at St. Francis Hospital as an outpatient procedure. The day of surgery he will reiterate the procedure to you and mark out the areas of concern with you to reassure your needs. The procedure is performed under a “sleepy” state with numbing medicine, or under complete general anesthesia. Dr. Stanwix makes only a couple of small 1/4″ incisions and uses them to perform the entire surgery! Dr. Stanwix always uses the safe tumescence technique to minimize pain and bleeding. He then uses the liposuction technique of choice to remove your unwanted fatty areas. A few minor sutures are placed to close those tiny incisions and then a compression garment will be placed. The time needed to recover from liposuction depends on the areas of liposuction and how much needs to be removed. Occasionally, Dr. Stanwix will have you stay briefly overnight in the hospital to recover. However, the overwhelming majority of time you will go home the same day of surgery. Dr. Stanwix provides you with pain medicine and other medicines to help with discomfort after surgery. It is very important to always wear your surgical garment, it helps to mold your skin to the ideal curves and figure that you desire. The day after surgery you can start to shower and it is important to walk around. Depending on the area of surgery, your return to work and physical activity will vary.
