Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Reasons for an arm lift (brachioplasty)
Like all other people Richmond VA, summertime or vacations involves short sleeves or sleeveless outfits, as well as exposed arms at the beach or pool. Many men and women are dissatisfied with the appearance and shape of their arms. Kathy Lee Gifford once popularized many slang words about the hanging skin on the arm and how unsightly it is for most Americans. Although it is not talked about as much breast augmentation or tummy tucks, arm lifts, or brachioplasty, play a very important role in redefining your natural beauty. Dr. Stanwix believes that the arms are a vital part of the body as a whole unit. Most people will work on their arms at the gym because they know it can make a big difference in appearance. However, despite exercise and dieting, excess fatty tissue and particularly skin on the arm is extremely difficult to correct. Dr. Stanwix is an expert in advanced and minimally invasive arm lift techniques that will help you get the arms that you deserve.

Dr. Stanwix uses liposuction alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures. During your consultation, Dr. Stanwix will listen to your concerns, perform a detailed physical examination and provide you with an individualized surgical plan. Remember that liposuction is used as an adjunct and not a substitute for weight loss. It is used to treat the stubborn areas that persist because of genetics and family propensities despite diet and exercise. An ideal person for liposuction is a healthy individual with specific areas of disproportionate fatty deposits with good skin quality.

Surgery

Dr. Stanwix performs multiple different arm lift procedures depending on your body type and your desires. Dr. Stanwix always tailors his meticulous surgical technique to you. He performs thee main types of arm lifts: liposuction, limited incision (“armpit”) tuck, and full arm incision. Almost always, he will combine the liposuction with the full and limited incision procedures to really define the area and provide a natural result. Dr. Stanwix can also extend his surgery into the bra strap area to get rid of the excess tissue that creates a roll or fullness in that stubborn underarm/armpit area.

It takes Dr. Stanwix one to two hours to perform an arm lift surgery under general anesthesia. Depending on which procedure he uses, Dr. Stanwix conceals the incisions well. Sometimes the incision can be hidden in the armpit, and other times it may have to extend down the arm. Either way, Dr. Stanwix uses meticulous and cutting edge techniques to perform the surgery. You will have a compression garment placed over the arm and will be able to go home that same day.

After Surgery Care

At the end of surgery, Dr. Stanwix will place you in a compression garment which you will wear for two or more weeks. All sutures used are dissolvable and skin glue will be applied for a better scar, therefore you can shower the day after surgery.

Although you will not be lifting over 5 pounds for a week or two, Dr. Stanwix still wants you to be active and walk around. In fact you can walk the neighborhood the day of surgery and most aerobic activities in 5-7 days.  There will be some discomfort, but it will be very minimal and controlled with the medicines that Dr. Stanwix prescribes. Follow the detailed instructions that Dr. Stanwix gives you on the day of surgery and you will do very well afterwards.
